Chrysalis
A cocoon lies in the space, barely recognisable in the dim light. Slow tones are sounding in the space. The light seems to change color – the tones are changing slowly in pitch. The cocoon seems to move – the light seems to get brighter and gradually shift color. Suddenly a fast movement – a shrieking sound fills the space – then again everything quiets down – the movement, the sound, the light.
Marije Baalman is an artist and researcher/developer working in the field of interactive sound art. Since 2010 she works as a freelance artist and developer from Amsterdam and used to work as a hardware engineer at STEIM. Her current research goes into the use of wireless networks for live performance, installations and interactive environments. In her artistic work she is interested in the realtime components of the work. To realise her works she mostly uses open source technology (software and hardware) and she is an active contributor to the open source community.
Marije Baalman est une artiste, chercheuse, développeur travaillant dans le domaine du son intéractif. De 2010 à 2016 elle a travaillé en tant qu’artiste indépendante à Amsterdam sur des projets liés au développement au STEIM (Studio For Electronic-Instrumental Music). Ses recherches actuelles se concentrent sur l’utilisation de réseaux sans fil pour la performance live & sur l’installation d’environnements intéractifs. Elle s’intéresse également aux composants en temps-réel de ces installations. Pour la réalisation elle utilise principalement la technologie open source, (logiciels et matériel) à laquelle elle contribue largement et activement.
