Michael J. Schumacher (né en 1961) a composé plus de 70 œuvres pour divers instruments et voix. Il figure parmi les quelques artistes à avoir présenté leurs œuvres à la Dream House de La Monte Young et Marianne Zazeela avec qui il a collaboré dans les années 1980. Continuateur du courant minimaliste, depuis 1988 il expérimente essentiellement le média électronique qu’il accompagne souvent à la guitare. Il propose des installations ou des performances utilisant des drones ou “trames sonores” générés par des logiciels musicaux. Michael J. Schumacher s’est également produit à la guitare préparée (en référence au piano préparée de John Cage). Il est membre du Donald Miller Trio, aux côtés de Charles Curtis.

Schumacher is also produced on prepared guitar (referring to John Cage’s prepared piano). He is a member of the Donald Miller Trio, alongside Charles Curtis.
