\u00a0Michael Pisaro-Liu (n\u00e9 en 1961 \u00e0 Buffalo, New York) est un guitariste et compositeur et un membre de longue date du collectif Wandelweiser. Alors que, comme d’autres membres de Wandelweiser, Pisaro-Liu est connu pour ses pi\u00e8ces de longue dur\u00e9e avec des p\u00e9riodes de silence, au cours des deux derni\u00e8res d\u00e9cennies, son travail s’est diversifi\u00e9 dans de nombreuses directions, y compris le travail avec l’enregistrement sur le terrain, l’\u00e9lectronique, l’improvisation et de grands ensembles de des constitutions instrumentales tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rentes.<\/div>\n

Michael Pisaro-Liu (born 1961 in Buffalo, New York) is\u00a0a guitarist and composer and a long-time member of the Wandelweiser collective.\u00a0While, like other members of Wandelweiser, Pisaro-Liu is known for\u00a0pieces of\u00a0long duration with periods of silence, over the past two decades his work has\u00a0branched out in many directions, including work with field recording,\u00a0electronics, improvisation and large ensembles of\u00a0very different kinds of\u00a0instrumental constitution.<\/p>\n

Pisaro-Liu has a long-standing collaboration with Greg Stuart, and\u00a0has played in duos with Christian Wolff, Keith Rowe, Taku Sugimoto, Antoine\u00a0Beuger, Toshiya Tsunoda, Reinier van Houdt, and\u00a0filmmaker Cherlyn Hsing-Hsin\u00a0Liu.<\/p>\n

In addition to a previous release on New World Records (A mist is\u00a0a collection of points), recordings of his music can be found on Edition Wandelweiser,\u00a0erstwhile records, elsewhere music, Potlatch, another\u00a0timbre, ftarri, winds\u00a0measure and other labels, including his own imprint, Gravity Wave.<\/p>\n

Pisaro-Liu wrote an article on notation for the\u00a0Ashgate Research Companion to Experimental\u00a0Music\u00a0(2011)\u00a0and has written\u00a0books chapters for\u00a0Writing the Field Recording (University of Edinburgh\u00a0Press, 2017),\u00a0Perspectives for\u00a0Contemporary Music in the 21st Century,\u00a0(Wolke Verlag, 2016),\u00a0Word\u00a0Events: Perspectives on Verbal Notation\u00a0(Bloomsbury,\u00a02012),\u00a0Best Music Writing 2009\u00a0(Greil\u00a0Marcus, editor, DaCapo Press); and for the\u00a0journals\u00a0Revue TACET\u00a0(Paris),\u00a0Revue et\u00a0Corrige\u00e9\u00a0(France),\u00a0Positionen\u00a0(Berlin) and others. He has written on filmmaker\u00a0James Benning (in\u00a0James Benning, \u00d6sterrreichisches\u00a0Filmmuseum, Vienna, Austria, 2008) and\u00a0translated a book of poetry by Oswald\u00a0Egger (Room of Rumor: Tunings, Green\u00a0Integer, 2004).<\/p>\n

Pisaro-Liu is the Director of Composition and Experimental Music the\u00a0California Institute of the Arts. He was Fromm Foundation Visiting\u00a0Professor of Music Composition at in the Department of Music at\u00a0Harvard in the Fall of 2014.<\/p>\n
